The policy brief describes how the weak protection for asylum seekers and refugees in Turkey has been further undermined after the failed Coup d’éta. They found that many deported non-Syrians are unable to apply for asylum from within the Turkish detention centres and forced to sign return papers while readmitted Syrians remain without effective protection and some also feel obliged to return to Syria. The authors concludes that Turkey cannot be considered as safe-third-country for refugees and asylum seekers.
